The Education Department said the workshop would be mandatory for all primary school teachers. The notice issued to all district education officers (DEOs) reads that resource persons, who would impart the training, would also check daily assignments of the teachers during the workshop. Sources said a competition would also be organised for the attendees after the workshop.

Patiala District Education Officer (Primary) Amarjeet Singh said: “Students, especially primary students, learn everything from teachers. If a teacher himself/herself does not have good calligraphy skills, how will a child learn? This is very good exercise for primary teachers because handwriting is very important.”
