After six intense days of top-tier junior golf at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club (RCGC), Harjai Milkha Singh, son of golfing legend Jeev Milkha Singh, defeated Krish Chawla after a remarkable week at the inaugural IGU RCGC Junior Boys Golf Championship. Chawla missed the title to Harjai, who won the final 4&3 in a high-quality contest.

The championship, organised under the aegis of the Indian Golf Union (IGU), featured some of India’s finest junior golfers competing in a demanding match-play format. Over the course of six days, the young golfers endured fluctuating weather conditions, long rounds and intense competition — a true test of skill, focus and stamina. Chawla, one of India’s most consistent junior performers and a member of the national squad, showcased tremendous grit throughout the week. He registered a series of impressive victories in the pre-quarter, quarter and semifinal stages, displaying sharp course management, precision iron play and exceptional putting under pressure. His consistent performance and fighting spirit earned widespread praise from coaches, peers and officials.

In the final, Chawla fought but fatigue from the extended competition appeared to play a factor. Despite a strong start, Harjai’s steady play and putting touch helped him close the match on the 15th hole.

“It was a great experience and a tough week. Playing six consecutive days at a course like the RCGC really tests you physically and mentally,” said Chawla after the final. “I’m happy with how I played and will take the positives forward into the upcoming events.”

The IGU RCGC Junior Boys Golf Championship marked a successful debut on the national junior circuit, setting new standards for competitive intensity and organisation. The event also highlighted the rising depth of talent in Indian junior golf, with players like Chawla continuing to make a strong mark on the national and international stage.
