Chandigarh, February 18
The pair of Haroon Rashid and Deepak Saxena won the men’s 45+ doubles titles by defeating Deepak Jain and Sunil, during the Chandigarh State Seniors (Veterans) Badminton Championship organised by the Chandigarh Badminton Association at the Sector 42 Sports Complex.
Saxena also won the men’s singles 45+ title by defeating Nikhil Cheri. In the men’s 75+ singles, Desh Raj Vohra claimed the first position by defeating Raj Kumar Bansal, while AK Sondhi won the 70+ final. In the doubles final, Vohra and Subhash Nagpal claimed the top post. Sudhir Singla and Sunil Behal won the 65+ doubles final, while Kailash Prabhakar and Bharat Bhushan claimed the second position.
In the singles event, Prabhakar defeated Bhushan to win the title. Rajeev Mehta and Ombir Saini won the 65+ final by defeating Hemraj and Sanjay Judge. Mehta bagged second title after registering win over Praveen Taneja in the singles event of the same age group.
In the women’s 55+ singles final, Sargun R Arora defeated Sunita Dave, while in the doubles event, the team of Sargun and Mandeep Kang defeated Sunita Dave and Poonam Garg. Rajpal Singh and Mandeep Kang won the mixed doubles final by defeating Deepak Dhiman and Sargun.
Jagdish Singh and Dhiman won the 55+ doubles final by defeating Rajpal and PJ Arora, while in the singles final, Dhiman defeated Rajpal. Geeta Aggarwal won the women’s 50+ title by defeating Kabita Chandra, while in the mixed doubles event, Rajneesh Bhatia and Geeta defeated Ombir and Kabita. Alok Mishra won the men’s 50+ singles final by defeating Kanwaldeep Singh.
Geeta won women’s 45+ singles final by defeating Mandeep Mehandiratta, while Deepak Saxena and Lavita won the mixed doubles final by overpowering Haroon and Mandeep. In the women’s 40+ doubles final, Isha Gupta and Kamlesh won the title. Sarda Devi won the women’s 40+ singles final by defeating Isha, and in the mixed doubles, Geeta and Jagjas Jiv claimed the top position by defeating Rajeevan Bansal and Kamlesh. The team of Prabhat and Jagjas won the men’s doubles final by defeating Naresh Kundu and Amit Sachdeva, while Ashish Sharma won the men’s singles final by overpowering Kundu.
In the 35+ mixed doubles final, Arpan and Shweta claimed the top position, whereas Akash Sethi and Binny Bansal finished second. Binny won the women’s singles final by defeating Mala Gabbam, whereas the team of Mala and Geeta won the doubles final by defeating Binny and Shweta. Satinder Malik and Sahil won the men’s doubles title, while Akash Sethi and Paras Gupta claimed the second position. Malik defeated Mohamed Munir to claim the men’s singles title.
Vijayendra- Rajneesh selected for national
The pair of Vijayendra Kumar, Principal Secretary, Government of Haryana, Rajneesh Bhatia, CEO, Domestic & Ecommerce -Trident Group, won the men’s 50+ doubles title by defeating Gurmeet Singh and Riyaz. Both players have qualified to represent the city in the national badminton masters championship to be held in Haryana next month.
