Arav Negi defeated Aryavratt Pirta Mohan of Haryana 15-7 15-4 in the boys’ U-15 opening qualifying round on the inaugural day of the Yonex-Sunrise Ashwani Gupta Memorial All India Sub-Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini inaugurated the meet. He stressed that players should set a goal of winning medals at the Olympic Games. He also announced Rs 11 lakh grant to the Sports Promotion Society, Panchkula, from his discretionary fund for conducting the meet.

Meanwhile, Saish Rayaprolu also moved into the next round by defeating Haryana’s Rubal Nain 15-10 15-7, while Rugved Rothe defeated Sikender Rathee 15-7 15-6. In some other one-sided results, Srichethan Shourya ousted Adharv Anish 15-5 15-12, Darsh Joshi defeated Arnav 15-7 15-9, Ateeq Ahmad posted a 15-9 15-8 win over Avanish Nekiye, Anukalp Sahu ousted Chadha Khagesh 15-9 15-8 and Tanwar Saras defeated Harshul Tarale 15-8 15-6.

In the girls’ U-15 event, Akshara Salla defeated Hargun Kaur 15-8 16-14 and Kyra Raina of Maharashtra beat Aaradhya Sharma of Rajasthan 15-7 15-8. Saanvi Bora also moved ahead by defeating Deeksha Sahasra 15-2 15-5, and Loukyaasri Samadhi Srikanth posted a 15-7 15-9 win over Divyanshi Chopra. Vanya Manchanda defeated Avleen Kamboj 15-8 15-13, Garvita Tripathi posted a 15-12 15-10 win over Harshita and Rishitha Tadidari ousted Saadhya Naresh 15-10 15-9.

In the girls’ U-17 event, Kyra Raina struggled hard to defeat Divyanshi Bangar15-10 8-15 15-12, whereas Akshara Salla recorded an easy 15-10 15-6 victory over Aarna Gharia. Jasleen Kaur Syan posted a 15-3 15-4 win over Purva and Ashtami Rawat ovepowered Pragun Angural 15-9 15-12. Anushkaa Jennifer AS moved ahead by defeating Samaira Saxena 15-9 15-7, Ditya Jakhar beat Alaka Dev 15-6 15-12, Arshita outplayed Tharini Shree Krishnakumar 15-10 15-5 and Lalremruati Tirza got the better of Aneetta Binu 15-10 15-11.
