Panchkula, February 7
The police have nabbed three members of an interstate gang involved in defrauding people on the pretext of doubling their money through investments and likes on social media posts.
The suspects were identified as Javed, Saurav and Prashant, all residents of Yamunanagar. Ten mobile phones, 15 SIM cards, and details of the social media accounts have been recovered from them.
SP Cybercrime, Panchkula Amit Dahiya, addressed the media regarding the case today. He said the police began investigating the case when they received a complaint from an Ambala resident who had been duped of Rs 19.40 lakh.
Dahiya said, “The gang has formed micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) trading firms registered in Ambala, Karnal and Kurukshetra, among other places. They operate from Thane in Mumbai as well. They have registered their firms in the names of other people in places that they have not even visited. The amounts they duped from innocent people were transferred using UPI. The police have presented the suspects in a local court and got a six-day police remand. Police officials said that an accomplice of the three suspects is absconding, adding that the police are set to conduct raids to nab him as well.
