Panchkula, July 19
Haryana Speaker Gian Chand Gupta inaugurated the work of the first phase of ‘Oxi Van’ by planting saplings of “Panchavati” on the occasion of 73rd district-level Vanmahotsav here today. The ‘Oxi Van’ is being developed over an area of 100 acres in Bir Ghaggar.
Addressing the gathering, Gian Chand Gupta said Panchkula and Karnal were the only two districts in Haryana where ‘Oxi Van’ was being developed. ‘Oxi Van’, being developed over 100 acres, would create a new chapter in the history of Panchkula. It would not only help in increasing the forest cover, but also become a major tourist centre.
He said in the development plan of ‘Oxi Van’, provisions for beautiful and attractive gardens and waterfalls had been made along with a coffee house and a cycle track. As ‘Oxi Van’ was being developed along the Ghaggar, a walking track would also be constructed on the lines of Sukhna Lake where people can walk in the morning and evening. As many as 5,500 trees, plants and herbs would be planted on seven acres in the first phase.
Gupta directed the District Education Officer to identify vacant spaces in schools and plant maximum saplings there. He also released a booklet of nurseries in Panchkula and honoured forest guards in recognition of their outstanding work.
