The Chandigarh Police have registered a case against Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma for allegedly defying government orders by performing a banned song during a stage show at Panjab University (PU) in Sector 25. The performance is under investigation for its suspected role in inciting violence. The same night, a violent clash between students and outsiders led to the death of Aditya Thakur.

The FIR has been filed at Sector 11 Police Station under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to ‘disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant’. The case was registered following allegations that Sharma performed the controversial song “Chambal Ke Daku” during the March 28 event. The track is one of 30 songs banned by the Haryana government for glorifying violence and promoting gun culture.

Despite a prior written undertaking to police and organisers that no banned or provocative content would be included in the performance, Sharma allegedly went ahead with the song.

Soon after the concert, a fight broke out among students, during which Aditya was fatally attacked with sharp-edged weapons. Police are investigating whether the performance contributed to the outburst of violence.

Officials confirmed that the event violated guidelines issued by the UT Administration, and Sharma’s actions are being treated with seriousness given their potential role in the tragic sequence of events.
