Chandigarh, July 23
The Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued a notice to the Haryana Chief Secretary, the State DGP and the Ambala SP on a plea by a minor “rape victim” seeking the constitution of a special investigation team for probing her complaint. Directions were also sought to probe the role of a women police station, including the SHO, for her alleged attempts to shield the accused
The Bench was told that the minor was raped by the accused several times and had to even terminate her pregnancy. But the women police station did not mention the facts narrated by her in her complaint to mitigate the gravity of allegations.
The Bench was also told that the SHO had been booked for her role in the matter. But the entire case was required to be probed by an SIT. Taking up the plea, Justice Arun Monga of the High Court also fixed September 2 as the next date of hearing in the matter.
The petitioner added the officers not below the rank of deputy superintendent of police under the direct supervision of some senior police officer were required to constitute the SIT.
