Head constable, 2 others arrested with 1.8kg marijuana
The police arrested three accused, including a serving head constable of the 82nd Batallion of Police, and recovered 1.8 kg marijuana from them. The arrested accused have been identified as Gurjeet Singh, alias Mani of Manimajra, Davinder Kumar of Nurpur Bedi in Roopnagar, and senior constable Ankush Pal of Una.
An operation was carried out by Preet Kanwar Singh, probationer DSP and SHO Police Station Dhakoli, along with a police party yesterday. The police registered a case under Sections 20, 61, 85 of the NDPS Act at Dhakoli police station and apprehended the accused, along with a scooter.
Zirakpur DSP Jaspinder Singh and SHO Preet Kanwar Singh said the accused, Gurjeet Singh and Ankush, were previously booked under the NDPS Act in Dhalli, Shimla. The accused have been taken into police remand and an in-depth interrogation is underway to uncover further links in the drug supply chain.
The police officials are intensifying crackdown on drug traffickers by conducting continuous raids at various hideouts. In recent days, multiple FIRs have been registered, resulting in several arrests and the seizure of significant quantities of narcotics.
In another case, the police said a cop had been booked for extorting a chemist at gunpoint in Kharar. A case has been registered at the Kharar City police station and the police is searching for him.
