Heritage plaque stolen from Sec 35 green belt
A heritage plaque commemorating the inauguration of Phase II of the city has reportedly been stolen from the Green Belt near a petrol pump in Sector 35.
The theft came to light when staff of the horticulture wing noticed the plaque missing. A complaint was filed by Junior Engineer (JE) Hari Chand, following which a case was registered under Section 303 (2) (theft) of the BNS at the Sector 36 police station.
A police officer said, “It is unclear when the theft occurred. We have launched a thorough investigation. The CCTV footage of the area will be scanned to get some clue about the theft.”
Sources said the 1976 plaque was found missing in September this year, after which a complaint was lodged with the police. The police have registered the FIR now.
The theft of the plaque has raised concerns among heritage enthusiasts and officials, underlining the need for better security measures around public installations.
Residents of the area called for increased vigil to prevent such thefts of heritage items.
