A crime branch team led by ASI Ravinder Pal arrested an accused involved in heroin smuggling on Tuesday. The accused has been identified as Sukhdeep Singh (34), alias Deep, a resident of Ferozepur in Punjab. He was presently residing in a rented house in Mohali.

Earlier, on March 22, two individuals, Naresh Sharma and Gaurav Sharma, were arrested in connection with drug trafficking by the Chandimandir police. During interrogation, they revealed that they had purchased heroin from Sukhdeep Singh, who sold drug near Suraj Theatre, Panchkula. They told the police that if a search was conducted in the area, Sukhdeep could be caught with heroin.

Acting on the information, a police team was deployed around Suraj Theatre to apprehend the accused. A suspicious individual was spotted standing under a tree in the theatre’s parking area. When questioned, he panicked and attempted to flee from the spot. As the police team tried to apprehend him, he stumbled and fell on the concrete pavement, sustaining minor injuries. Upon searching the accused, the police recovered 10.23 grams of heroin from his possession. The accused failed to produce any legal documents or permits for possession of the drug.

A case was registered against the accused under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at the Sector 7 police station in this connection. The accused was presented before a court which sent him to two-day police remand for further investigation.
