The petitioner stated that the UT Administration had decided to close all medians on Shanti Path, which runs from Sector 31/47 road to Sector 25/38 road. However, the one on the road separating Sectors 33 and 45 was not closed. The then DIG Chandigarh had ordered the closure of the cut in 2020. The UT Chief Architect too had approved the closure of cuts on the Sector 31/47 and Sector 33/45 roads, claimed the petitioner.

The cut in the median is a huge hindrance to the smooth movement of traffic, besides threatening the peace and security of Sector 33-C and D residents. The area has witnessed a number of cases of chain snatching, theft, burglary, shooting and car theft over the past three years, stated the petitioner while praying for a writ of mandamus directing the respondents to close the lone cut on the Shanti Path as the same has already been approved by administrative authorities.

Justice Harsh Bunger adjourned the hearing in the case to February 12 next year while issuing notices to the respondents for filing their replies.
