Hired 20 days ago, domestic help sedates family, flees with valuables
A domestic help, along with her three accomplices, sedated three members of a family, including an elderly woman, and decamped with valuables worth over Rs 2 lakh from a house in the Inderpura area. Before fleeing the house, they kept an elderly woman family member hostage, gagged her and tied her limbs.
Narrating the harrowing incident, 65-year-old victim Harpreet Kaur stated that she was living in the house along with her son, daughter-in-law and a grandson.
About 20 days ago, they had hired a domestic help from Nepal, who introduced herself as Manisha, on the recommendation of a relative in Ludhiana.
She said her son had gone to Bengaluru when on Thursday night while making dinner, the domestic help mixed sedatives in the food and served it to the family.
Around 12.30 am, the maid let her three male acquaintances into the house. They were armed with iron rods and sharp weapons. As soon as they entered her room, she woke up. Seeing her awake, the accused tied her up with tape and cloth and threatened to kill her. They took the two diamond rings she was wearing and also stole Rs 5,000 to 7,000 from her purse.
Meanwhile, the victim’s son spotted an unusual activity at his house while checking an application on his mobile phone, which was connected with the CCTVs installed at his place. He spotted unidentified persons in the house. When he couldn’t reach his family over the phone, he rang up his friends and neighbours and asked them to visit his house.
The victim’s friends reached the house and one of them fired a shot into the air to warn the miscreants. The domestic help and her three companions climbed a wall and fled the spot.
Harpreet Kaur was freed and cops at the Bakshiwal police station were informed about the incident.
