The injured have been identified as history-sheeter Goldy, a resident of Kheri village, who sustained a bullet injury in his chest; and car driver Dinesh of Raipur Rani, who was shot in the hand. Goldy has been admitted to the PGI, Chandigarh.

The incident took place around 3.30 pm near Bhareli village. Dinesh said two assailants, who were on foot, opened fire on them. “We had stopped on the roadside as many people had gathered in front of us in the rally. Suddenly, a bullet shattered a windowpane and another hit Goldy. I was shot in the hand. I could not see the assailants as they immediately fled the scene.” Party workers took the injured to the Civil Hospital, Sector 6, Panchkula, where the doctors referred Goldy to the PGI.

Doctors at the Civil Hospital said Goldy had sustained an injury on the left side of the chest. He was facing difficulty in breathing. Pardeep Chaudhary later visited the PGI to check on Goldy.

While talking to mediapersons, Chaudhary said, “This is a clear attempt to create an atmosphere of terror among people. The police will investigate the reason behind the attack.”

The police in Ambala, Yamuna nagar, Panchkula, Lalru, Mohali and other places have registered 29 cases of attempt to murder, Arms Act, mining and others against him. We are looking at the matter with the possibility of a previous rivalry.”

The police have detained certain persons and formed four teams to nab the assailants.
