An elderly woman died after allegedly being hit by a speeding motorcycle under the Sector 20 flyover here on Saturday.

According to the complainant, Sachin Rawat, who works as a cook, the accident occurred when he, his wife Vijay Laxmi and grandmother Sushila were crossing the road on foot. They were heading towards Abhaypur to buy some goods when a motorcycle coming from Old Panchkula allegedly hit Sushila. Sachin and his wife narrowly escaped.

Sachin said the motorcycle, which had two riders, was moving at high speed. His grandmother passed out and was rushed to the Government Hospital in Sector 6, Panchkula, in an auto-rickshaw. The motorcyclist also accompanied them to the hospital but allegedly left after some time without informing them, he added.

The doctors examined Sushila and referred her to the PGI, Chandigarh. Sachin said upon reaching the PGI Emergency, the doctors declared her dead on arrival. The body was brought back to the mortuary of the Government Hospital, Sector 6, here.

Sachin, a resident of Badi Kundi Ahluwalia Complex, Sector 20, Panchkula, said he and his family had been living in Kundi village for the past two years. His grandmother also lived in the same building with her son Devendra and other family members.

The police recorded Sachin’s statement at the mortuary, after which a case was registered under Sections 106 and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the unidentified motorcyclist.
