Chandigarh, April 14
The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation today celebrated the Fire Service Week at the fire station, Sector 17.
It will be organised from April 14 to 20 under the theme “Learn Fire Safety, Increase Productivity.”
Sarabjit Kaur, Mayor, Anindita Mitra, Commissioner, and others laid wreaths at the Martyrs’ Column in the Sector 17 fire station and paid homage to fire brigade jawans.
A two-minute silence was also observed in memory of all those firemen in the country who lost their lives while on duty. In her speech, the Mayor applauded the bravery of fire personnel during crisis.
She remembered the fire martyrs’, who sacrificed their lives for saving mankind in the country namely Rabindra Mishra, leading fireman, Bihar Fire Service and Balu Damu Deshmukh, fireman rescuer, MIDC, Maharashtra Fire Service including others.
The Mayor and Commissioner also distributed certificates and mementoes to different teams of ladder drill and hose drills.
1st position in ladder drill (Fire Station, Sector 11) Bhupinder Singh, leading fireman (commander), Harjinder Singh, leading fireman (drill member), Anuj Kumar, fireman (drill member), Mukesh Kumar, fireman (drill member) and Dinesh Kumar, driver (drill member).
2nd position in ladder drill (Fire Station, Industrial Area Ph-I) Gursharanjit Singh, leading fireman (commander), Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, leading fireman (drill member), Ravi Dutt, leading fireman (drill member), Sunil Rohilla, leading fireman (drill member) and Pawan Kumar, fireman (drill member).
3rd position in ladder drill (Fire Station, Manimajra) Sunil Rathi, leading fireman (commander), Parshant Kumar, leading fireman (drill member), Anil Kumar, leading fireman (drill member), Ajay Kumar, fireman (drill member) and Parveen Kumar, fireman (drill member).
Hose drill (individual) 1st position Sukhdeep Singh (fireman, outsource, Fire Station, Sector 38), 2nd position Jitender (fireman, Fire Station, Sector 17) and 3rd position Devinder Singh (fireman, DLF). Besides, commendation certificates were awarded to the firemen with appreciation certificates for the duties performed.
