Earlier this week, the BCCI announced the schedule for the first two weeks of the IPL to commence on March 22. During the two-week period, 21 matches would be played across 10 cities, with each team playing a minimum of three matches and a maximum of five. As per the record, the match was previously scheduled at the IS Bindra PCA Stadium.

The Mullanpur stadium, which remained under construction for over 10 years, is yet to witness its first important event. Sources claimed the Punjab Kings management is likely to host only one match at their second home ground— Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA), Dharamshala.

Earlier this January, during the India-Afghanistan T20 International match at IS Bindra PCA Stadium (Mohali), BCCI secretary, Jay Shah visited the new stadium in Mullanpur. Before his visit, a team from the Punjab Kings visited the venue and expressed their desire to host IPL matches at the new arena. The 4-acre green cover field has already hosted a number of domestic tournaments, including BCCI age-group matches and Ranji Trophy matches. It was also aiming to host international matches for the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Approach roads

Two separate roads — one via Dhanas village and another via Togan village — are approaching roads to the stadium. The state highway from New Chandigarh and Kurali is also another route for the stadium.
