Ranvir Singh, a resident of Makha village in Hoshiarpur district, has been acquitted by a local court of the charges of rash driving and causing grievous hurt.

In a complaint to the police, Aatwari, a resident of Attawa village in Chandigarh, stated that around 9 am on July 22, 2017, his three-year-old son, Pannalal, was standing outside the house. A white Swift Dzire car hit his son and escaped from the spot. The child was taken to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, from where he was referred to the PGI.

On the complaint of Aatwari, a case under Sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the IPC was registered at the Sector 36 police station the same day.

Later, the police arrested Ranvir Singh and also recovered the car that was allegedly involved in the mishap.

Defence counsel Mandeep argued that there was dissimilarity in the registration number of the car. He said the vehicle’s registration number, which was given by the complainant was something else, whereas the police picked up the owner of the registration number of some other car.

After hearing the arguments, the court acquitted Ranvir of the charges.
