Hotel owner among 14 held for gambling in Zirakpur

The police arrested 14 persons, including a hotel owner and manager, for gambling. The team also seized around Rs 25 lakh in cash, 19 mobile phones and impounded seven cars and a scooter.

The arrests were made at Hotel KC Royal on the Chandigarh-Ambala Road. The accucsed have been identified as Peermuchhala reaident Ravi, Sector 23 resident Shivam, Sector 52 resident Anil Kumar, Sector 43 residents Sunil Kumar, Jeeti, Abohar resident Gobind, Arvind Kumar, Ganganagar resident Naveen Kumar, Panchkula residents Ashok Kumar, Subhash Chander, Moga residents Sukhjinder Singh, Sector 20, Panchkula resident Ashok Kumar, Baltana resident Pitabir and Nepalese national Rajbahadur.

The police had received a tip-off about illegal gambling activities taking place at the hotel.

Superintendent of Police Jaspinder Singh accompanied by a team from the Zirakpur police station entered the premises and found 14 individuals hailing from Chandigarh, Ambala, Rajpura, Mohali and others allegedly engaged in gambling on the third floor of the building. The team also confiscated all the gambling equipment found at the scene.

Senior Superintendent of Police Harmandeep Singh Hans said a case has been registered under the Gambling Act and section 318 (4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Zirakpur police station.
