Chandigarh, March 7
Putting speculation to rest, Banwarilal Purohit has clarified that he will continue as Punjab Governor and UT Administrator.
Citing personal reasons, Purohit had submitted his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu on February 3.
Talking to mediapersons here today, Purohit said the decision was personal as he missed his family and they, too, missed him. “As the resignation has not been accepted, I will continue to stay here,” he said, adding that all his family members are in Nagpur and he wanted to be with his family.
“Recently, my wife came to Chandigarh, but left for Nagpur after 10 days only,” he said.
Highlighting the achievements of the UT Administration in the past two and a half years, Purohit said all departments had worked hard and made achievements but his main focus was to bring Chandigarh among the first five rankings of the Swachh Survekshan. This year, the ranking improved to 11 from 66 with the hard work of his team, he said, adding that his other aim was to make Chandigarh first model solar city in the country by 2030.
About the new Dadu Majra garbage processing plant, Purohit said the new plant would not create any problem for the next 50 years and tenders for setting up the plant would be floated soon. He said plant was to be set up in consultation with National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), Nagpur.
Purohit said the city had been ranked the best UT in energy efficiency index and mobility sharing. It secured the first rank in the country in school education and is the best UT in crime and criminal network tracking system.
