Mohali Illegal transfers from bank accounts cost at least Rs 8 cr, manager vanishes

The Mohali police have received complaints from over 20-25 residents from villagers of Mullanpur over money being stolen from their bank accounts without their knowledge. The police have been carrying out raids to arrest prime suspect Gaurav (35), the bank manager, who has been absconding since the theft was revealed.
Mullanpur DSP Dharamvir Singh said the police are yet to receive details of the bank accounts and the total money that was illegally transferred out of the bank. “The bank officials are still working on the matter and will provide us the complete details. Meanwhile, we have received complaints from residents, who informed us that their money was transferred from their accounts without their knowledge. They claim their losses total above Rs 8 crore, but this is not the final figure. Some people are complaining to the bank as well. Therefore, the actual figure will be reached once the bank submits the details with us,” he said.
He added that the police have been carrying out raids at numerous places to nab the suspect. “We will also gather details of individuals in whose accounts the money was transferred by the manager,” he said.
Police said the bank manager had changed the phone numbers linked with the accounts before transferring money, so that the account-holders did not receive messages regarding fund transfers.
