Patiala, June 21
The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Punjab, including its Patiala branch, will observe a strike against the proposed Clinical Establishment Act on June 23. This Act will come into force from July 1.
Dr Ajata Shatru Kapoor, president, IMA, Patiala, and Dr Harsimran Singh, secretary, IMA, Patiala, said 43 acts were already imposed on private nursing homes, along with a regulatory body, Punjab Medical Council. Therefore, there was no need for another Act.
The IMA members said: “The Act, which has already been imposed in 11 states, has not shown any improved change in the parameters of healthcare. It has rather inflated the bills”.
The IMA, which condemned the Act, always demanded that nursing homes and clinics should be regularised so that quackery could be stopped. But the Punjab Government never paid heeds to their demands, said the members.
The members said if their demands were not met, they would intensify their protest. — TNS
