IMD forecasts rain for later this week in Tricity
Maximum temperatures in the region remained below normal, keeping the weather relatively pleasant in the last 24 hours
The Tricity experienced light rainfall over the past 24 hours, providing relief from the late September warmth. According to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) evening weather bulletin, Chandigarh recorded 1 mm of rain, while Mohali received 11 mm, the highest in the region during this period. Maximum temperatures in the region remained below normal, keeping the weather relatively pleasant.
At Chandigarh’s Sector 39 observatory, the day’s maximum temperature was recorded at 34.3°C, about 2.4°C below normal, while the minimum stood at 23.2°C. Mohali registered 32.9°C (maximum) and 22.7°C (minimum), with a significant 11 mm rainfall on Tuesday, indicating a wetter patch compared to its neighbouring cities. Panchkula saw similar conditions, with partly cloudy skies and a drop in daytime heat.
Humidity levels stayed high, peaking at 90 per cent, before dipping to around 56 per cent in the afternoon.
FORECAST
IMD has predicted largely clear to partly cloudy skies for the next three days (Oct 2-4), followed by a change on October 5 and 6, when thunder and rain are likely in the Tricity. Temperatures are expected to hover between 27°C and 34°C for maximums and 23°C-25°C for minimums.
Why early October feels cooler despite rain chances
Even though showers are still around, October is typically the transition month between monsoon and post-monsoon seasons. With the Sun moving southward after the Equinox, solar heating weakens, shortening daytime warmth. At the same time, rain-bearing clouds block direct sunlight, keeping maximum temperatures lower. Even when humidity remains high, the combination of reduced solar intensity, clearer nights, and occasional rain ensures cooler mornings and more comfortable evenings for the Tricity.
