IMD predicts cold wave in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh till Nov 12

The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning of cold wave conditions in some pockets of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh till November 12, with night temperatures falling below normal. Last week, the minimum temperature in parts of northwest India was above normal.

While the weather is expected to remain dry over the next seven days, no large change in minimum temperature is likely for the next 3-4 days, which is likely to remain below normal by 2-4°C, said a bulletin issued by the IMD on November.

Over the past 24 hours, the minimum temperature recorded in Punjab ranged from 7.2°C at Faridkot to 12.7°C at Mohali. The deviation was highest in Bathinda, where the temperature was 3.5°C below normal.

Rainfall in November so fall has also been below the long-period average (LPA). From November 1 to November 10, Punjab received 1.6 mm rainfall against the LPA of 1.8 mm for the period, accounting for a shortfall of 9 per cent.

The seasonal rainfall in the state, however has been significantly surplus, with the precipitation being 220 per cent above normal since October 1, according to the IMD.
