Immigration agent booked for fraud

Chandigarh: Two cases have been registered against an immigration consultant for cheating people on the pretext of sending them abroad. Baghel Singh of Malerkotla alleged that Jai Karan Joshi and other employees of Golden Overseas, Sector 22, duped him of Rs 95,000 regarding providing visa of Kuwait. Jaswinder Singh of Hoshiarpur alleged that he was cheated out of Rs 1.10 lakh on the pretext of providing work permit of Iraq. The police have registered separate cases at the Sector 17 station. TNS

Cash, gold stolen in Sector 42

Chandigarh: A bag containing Rs 1.55 lakh and gold jewellery worth several lakhs was stolen from Community Centre, Sector 42. The police have registered a case on a complaint filed by Krishan Raj at the Sector 36 station. TNS

Adviser visits DC office, RLA

Chandigarh: UT Adviser Rajeev Verma along with Home Secretary Mandip Brar, DGP Surendra Singh Yadav, DC Vinay Pratap Singh, State Information Officer, NIC, UT, Ramesh Kumar Gupta and senior officials of the Administration, police and MC visited the Integrated Command and Control Centre and Police Command Control Centre in Sector 17, Centre for Cyber Operations and Security in Sector 18, DC office and RLA, Sector 17 on Tuesday. Plantation drive organised

Chandigarh: The officers and staff of Directorate of Marketing and Inspection (DMI), Regional Office, Chandigarh, organised a plantation drive under the campaign ‘Ek Pedh Maa ke Naam’ on Tuesday. The staff was also administered swachhta pledge by Manoj Kumar, Deputy Agricultural Marketing Adviser. CITCO also organised a one-day special plantation drive across all its units, including Hotels Mountview, Shivalikview, Parkview, CITCO petrol stations, IDFC, Sukhna Lake and other units. TNS

Cleanliness campaign

Chandigarh: As part of the nationwide “Swachhata hi Seva” campaign, the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) started a fortnight long series of activities here on Tuesday. These include cleanliness drives, awareness campaigns and a cycle rally. A cleanliness drive was conducted at the Motor Market in Sector 48 in collaboration with the MC and Aashray Foundation. As part of an effort to beautify public spaces, wall graffities were created at the compost plant in Daddumajra. A tree plantation drive was also held. TNS
