Chandigarh, August 9
Two immigration agents, who were accused of duping nearly 60 people of Rs 6 crore, have been nabbed by the UT police. Both had fled to Delhi after perpetrating the fraud in the city.
The accused, Amit Arora and Vikash Sharma, were arrested in Delhi by a joint team of the District Crime Cell and the Sector 17 police station. They were running a firm, My Immigration Solution, in Sector 17.
The police said they had received complaints from around 60 people who wanted to go abroad and were cheated by these accused. “The accused had cheated their victims out of Rs 5-6 crore,” said a police official.
Five cases have been registered against them at the Sector 17 police station.
They earlier had an office in Sector 44 and cheated a number of gullible people. The victims had lodged complaints against both at the Sector 34 police station.
During the investigation, the police found that the accused had purchased a showroom in Sector 44 with the ill-gotten money, but later sold it off. “We are investigating the properties owned by the accused that have been purchased in the past few years,” said a cop.
