Chandigarh: A Panchkula resident has been booked by the UT police for ramming his car into the boundary wall of the Golf Club, Sector 6. He was allegedly driving in an inebriated condition. Mit Mohan Singh rammed his car into the boundary wall of the club on Tuesday night. The injured was taken to the GMSH-16. A case under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the IPC and Section 185 (driving by a drunken person or a person under the influence of drugs) of the Motor Vehicles Act has been registered at the Sector 3 police station. 10,000 appear for PU exams
Chandigarh: For a record number, around 10,000 students appeared for blended (online/offline) examinations of 166 subjects, being conducted by Panjab University. Apart from exams conducted in three slots, one from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm, was rescheduled due to the UGC NET today. Prof Parvinder Singh, Controller of Examination, informed that despite all odds due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the team of examination branch was working 24×7 for whole-hearted support in the larger interest of students. Webinar dwells on education policy
Chandigarh: The University Institute of Applied Management Sciences (UIAMS) organised a webinar on National Education Policy-2020. The chief guest on the occasion was Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Governor of Maharashtra. Prof Upasna Joshi Sethi, Director, UIAMS, introduced the chief guest. Koshyari appreciated Panjab University for being one of the oldest universities in the country and producing best alumni across all fields. ‘This education policy is true representative of Bharat. International online conference
Chandigarh: The PU Vice-Chancellor, Prof Raj Kumar, formally inaugurated a two-day international online conference on “Sustainable research technology and development” (IOCSRT-2020) here on Thursday. The conference is being organised by Dr SSBUICET in collaboration with DUIET, Assam, under the aegis of TEQIP-III, a World Bank project offered by MHRD, GOI. The inaugural session included briefing about the conference, TEQIP-III project, Dr SSBUICET and DUIET. In his address, the BHU Varanasi Vice-Chancellor, Prof Rakesh Bhatnagar, congratulated on the theme of the conference. In a message sent from the BHU, he emphasised on the need of sustainable technologies in the present scenario. Youth arrested with pistol
Chandigarh: A 22-year-old youth has been arrested by the Chandigarh Police with a country-made pistol. The suspect, identified as Sanjay, a resident of New Indra Colony, Mani Majra, was arrested from near a temple in Mani Majra on Wednesday. Purse snatched in Sector 34
Chandigarh: A motorcycle-borne miscreant snatched a purse from a woman near her house in Sector 34. According to the police, complainant Vidoola (46) reported that she was going to a market when a person riding a motorcycle snatched her purse containing a mobile and Rs500. The police said the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the area was being scrutinised to identify the suspect. A case has been registered at the Sector 34 police station. TNS

Chandigarh: The Department of Social Welfare, Women and Child Development, UT, is celebrating Poshan Maah with enthusiasm under the Poshan Abhiyaan. A series of activities are being undertaken at anganwadi centres to sensitise citizens, enhance their participation and associate them with eliminating malnutrition, anemia and ensuring 100 per cent home deliveries, ensuring early initiation of breast feeding and complete immunisation. Residents stage protest in Panchkula
Panchkula: Residents of Sectors 24, 25, 26, 27 and 28, under the banner of Haryana State HUDA Sector Confederation, staged a dharna at the community centre in Sector 26 on the issue of imposing enhancement on plot holders/residents of the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) sectors. They have also written a letter to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, demanding the matter to be solved within 15 days. The protesters threatened to intensify their agitation. TNS
