Mohali, August 18

“Land measuring 86 acres at Chandpur village of New Chandigarh in Mohali district is being grabbed by the organisations of political leaders at the behest of government officials. If any Panchayat member or villager opposes the land-grab attempt, false police cases are filed against them,” some residents of Chandpur village, along with Satnam Dao, president, Punjab Against Corruption, said at a press conference.

They also alleged that the present and former political leaders had leased a few acres out of 86 acres in the village with the connivance of government officials. And preparations were underway to lease the rest of the land.

Dao alleged when two members of Chandpur Panchayat, Kuldeep Singh and Jaswinder Kaur, protested, they were suspended on false charges.

He said a similar case had come to light earlier at Balongi village of Mohali.

Meanwhile, BDPO Jaspreet Kaur said the entire process was being carried out in accordance with the law. The purpose of the open bidding advertisement was that only the highest bidding organisation would be able to lease the land. She said if any notice was received for convening Gram Sabha, it would be replied as per the law.
