The MC carried out an anti-encroachment drive in Burail village and Sector 45. During the drive, 42 challans were issued to violators while 23 abandoned cars, two motorcycles and various other vehicle parts, including car seats and doors, were removed. These items had been illegally dumped or left unattended, occupying valuable public space and causing inconvenience to residents.

Body mauled by stray dogs

Mohali: An unidentified body was found in the fields along the Baroli-Janetpur road near Dera Bassi on Friday. The police said the face of the victim was mauled by stray dogs due to which he could not be identified. The body was shifted to the mortuary of Dera Bassi hospital where it will be kept for the next 72 hours for identification purpose.

Ex-cop booked in arms case

A retired assistant sub-inspector of the Punjab Police was arrested after he allegedly opened fire at his son during an altercation at their house in Khuda Ali Sher on Wednesday. The complainant, Kulwant Singh, stated that his father Kundan Singh was hurling abuses during a phone call while drinking liquor. As he objected to it, his father allegedly fired a gunshot at him. He escaped unhurt. A case under the Arms Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered at the Sector 11 police station.
