Chandigarh: A 70-year-old woman lost Rs 2.87 crore in an online fraud. The police said the victim, a resident of Sector 16, was duped on the pretext of trading in shares. A case has been registered at the Cybercrime police station and an investigation has been initiated into it. TNS

Man arrested with heroin

Chandigarh: The police have arrested a resident of Dadu Majra Colony for allegedly possessing 3.10 gm of heroin. The suspect, Ashwani Kumar, was nabbed near a taxi stand in Sector 38. A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered against him at the Maloya police station.

Rajiv appointed Chef-de-Mission 
Chandigarh: Former national bronze medallist in rowing Rajiv Sharma has been appointed Chef-de Mission of Chandigarh Olympic Association (COA) for the 38th Nationals Games to be held at Uttarakhand. Sharma who is also secretary of Chandigarh Rowing Association is also serving as senior vice president, COA.
Chitkara varsity paddlers shine
Mohali: Chitkara University players bagged a rich haul of medals at the Delhi State and Inter-District Table Tennis Championship. Lakshita Narang who is pursuing BBA final year won gold medal, while Vanshika Bhargava of MBA Retail Management won silver in the singles event. Meanwhile, Nancy of BBA first year has bagged bronze medal in the 10m Air Rifle Junior Women Team event at the 67th National Championship in Bhopal. Recently, Suhana Saini of BBC third year, won silver medal in the U-19 singles and bronze medal in the U-19 doubles event at the 86th Junior and Youth National and Inter State Table Tennis Championships, in Vadodara. Madhu Chitkara, Pro Chancellor of the university, congratulated the winners.
