The project was formally inaugurated by Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal at the Sector 15 Community Centre today. Speaking at the event, he said the move aligns with the government’s mission to promote solar energy and ensure energy self-sufficiency.

“By installing solar panel systems at various facilities, the municipal corporation will not only achieve zero electricity bills but also contribute to environmental sustainability,” the Mayor added.

Municipal Commissioner RK Singh, who was also present at the occasion, instructed the executing company to maintain high quality and complete the work swiftly to avoid any future energy shortfalls.

Under the project, approximately 600 kilowatts of rooftop solar plants will be installed across 18 community centres, an old age home, and a working women’s hostel. The initiative will involve an expenditure of over Rs 2.4 crore. The electricity generated will be used to power the respective centres, and any surplus power will be fed back into the grid, ensuring full offset of consumption costs.

The solar power project is expected to be completed within three months.

Once operational, the initiative will not only reduce the Municipal Corporation’s electricity expenses but also showcase Panchkula as a model of urban sustainability.
