India-China war led to setting up of Home Guards, says ADGP Rao

Haryana Home Guards ADGP CS Rao on Friday said that the unit was established in the country due to India-China war.

ADGP Rao was in Panchkula during the celebration of All India Civil Defence and Home Guards Day at the Joint Training Institute of Home Guards and Civil Defence. He inspected the parade after hoisting the flag, where five contingents of Home Guard employees and volunteers from different districts together welcomed the guests with a salute and march past.

The ADGP said that the Home Guards as an organisation was formed in the year 1946. It was made a twin voluntary organisation to provide security to the citizens in any untoward situation. He said that in the 1962 China war, the need for helpers was felt and on December 6, 1962, the Home Guards organisation was reorganised.

He said that during natural and man-made disasters in difficult circumstances, Home Guard volunteers stand firm without caring for their lives to protect the life and property of the people. He said that as many as 14,025 posts of Home Guards are approved in the state and assured that new recruitments will be done as soon as permission from the state government is granted.

Rao said that jawans who perform traffic duty with the police will be seen in white shirts and blue pants. He added that new technology and new equipment are being incorporated in the force in the modern era.

The Home Guard jawans conducted a mock drill of 10 types. The jawans participated in sports including running, tug-of-war and volleyball to deliver the message that a healthy body could make a safe society. The soldiers were honoured with appreciation certificates for their excellent work at the state level. The ADGP encouraged and praised the soldiers, took the salute at the march-past and witnessed mock drill and games.
