The indigenous component in defence equipment is 45 per cent at present while the production cost of equipment based on technologies developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has touched Rs 2.75 lakh crore, said Dr G Satheesh Reddy, Chairman, DRDO at the 59th Raising Day celebrations of the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL) at Ramgarh Ranges today.
Lauding the role played by the TBRL in developing technologies important for defence preparedness, he stressed upon the need for innovation and development of newer technologies.
PK Mehta, Director General, Armaments and Combat Engineering, said without indigenous technology no country can be a superpower. Dr Manjit Singh, Director, TBRL, highlighted the achievements of the laboratory and briefed the audience about the development of various new technologies for electronic fuses, low intensity conflict equipment, high power microwave system, photonics for detonics and pulse detonation system.
