Initiative on disposal of used cooking oil

Chandigarh, October 16

The Food Safety Department, UT, today launched ‘Repurpose Used Cooking Oil’ (RUCO), an initiative of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), on World Food Day.

Polar compounds formed during repeated use of the same cooking oil are associated with several diseases.

The FSSAI has issued directions to the UT to initiate the process of disposal and collection of used cooking oil.

Dr Amandeep Kang, Director, Health and Family Welfare, UT, flagged off the RUCO vehicles to kick start the initiative. More than 50 food business operators of the city along with authorised aggregator and biodiesel manufacturers were also present. — TNS
