The Municipal Corporation and Water Supply and Sanitation Department officials have issued notices to eateries in Phase1 to Phase 7, Phase 9 to Phase-11, Sector 70 and Sector 71 to install grease tanks for disposal of food wastage in market areas.

The eateries running in showrooms have been directed to install the necessary mechanism or check the operation of the existing mechanism within 10 days after which appropriate action would be taken against the offenders.

The Water Supply and Sanitation Department officials said more than 50 notices have already been issued till now.

Notably, residents living near the market areas have complained about the eateries running in showrooms and booths littering food and plastic waste in the vicinity, creating unhygienic conditions.

They have alleged that the eateries dispose off food waste and plastic in drains choking the lines frequently, with many operate gensets and storehouses in the backyards.

Commissioner T Benith held a meeting with the department officials to address the issue of choked drains and sewers in the shopping streets.
