Inter-school sports competitions from July 22

The first phase will include competitions of badminton, basketball, chess, football, kabaddi, kho-ko, table tennis, tennis (boys and girls) and cricket (boys only) in U-14 age group

The UT Education Department will start this year’s inter-school competitions from July 22 by organising 10 tournaments in different age groups and disciplines in the opening phase of the sports calendar.

The first phase will include competitions of badminton, basketball, chess, football, kabaddi, kho-ko, table tennis, tennis (boys and girls) and cricket (boys only) in U-14 age group along with karate (boys and girls) for all U-14, U-17 and U-19 age groups.

The last date of entry will be July 17, and the fixtures will be announced on July 19.

In the second phase, the competitions for archery, baseball, fencing, handball, judo, shooting, squash, taekwondo, wrestling and yogasana (boys and girls) will be held for U-14, U-17 and U-19 age groups from August 12 onwards. This phase will include badminton (U-17, U-19), basketball (U-17), chess (U-17, U-19), cricket (U-17), football (U-19), kabaddi (U-17, U-19), kho-kho (U-17, U-19), skating (U-11, U-14, -17, U-19), table tennis (U-17, U-19), tennis (U-17, U-19), volleyball (U-19) and wrestling (Greeco Roman for boys’ U-17 U-19). The last date of entry will be August 8 and the fixtures will be announced on August 9.

The third phase will be held from September 30 for cycling, gymnastics, hockey, netball, softball, swimming (boys and girls) for U-14, U-17 and U-19 categories. Inter-school competitions for basketball (U-19), cricket (U-19), football (U-17), gatka (U-17, U-19), volleyball (U-14, U-17), weightlifting (U-14, U-19) and wushu (U-17, U-19) for boys and girls will also be organised. The teams have been asked to confirm their entries by September 29.

The department will organise the annual athletics meet from January 20 to 24, next year, to conclude their calendar.

Age category

The players born on or after January 1, 2015 will be eligible to participate in the U-11 age group, while those born on or after January 1, 2012 will be eligible to participate in U-14 age group. The age bracket for U-17 event has been kept born on or after January 1, 2009 and those who born on or after January 1, 2007 will participate in the U-19 age group.

As per the guidelines of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, online linkage of Aadhaar of each participant of National School Games at the time of online entry is mandatory. A player can participate in any discipline, in the one age group for three years only. However, if a player fails, he/she can participate only once thereafter in the same age group with same class/standard (player can participate maximum two times in the same class/standard). In addition, the age group of U-14, a players studying below Class 6 is not allowed to participate in inter-school state tournament. In the age group of U-11, a player studying below Class 3 and above Class 6 is not allowed to participate.

In badminton, chess, table-tennis, tennis and squash, a team should consist of minimum three players and a maximum of five players and they all must be present during the tournament.

In yogasana, the team should consist of minimum four players and a maximum of five players along-with one player each in Artistic Yoga and Rhythmic Yoga (05+01+01=07).

In weightlifting, wrestling, judo, boxing, taekwondo, karate and wushu, only one player from each school will be allowed to participate in each weight category. In athletics, cycling and swimming two players from a school will be allowed to participate in each event. In skating, two players from a school will be allowed to participate in each event (quad events a player can participate in maximum two events only and in inline, a player can participate in maximum three events only).

In shooting, three players from a school will be allowed to participate in each event, and in kabaddi, at the time of weigh-in a minimum of 10 players should qualify the weight condition, otherwise team will not be allowed to participate.

In the case of local migration for Classes 10 and 12, a student can join the new school up to May 31.
