Interview aspirant rejected for asst prof’s post, PU told
Chandigarh, January 14
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed Panjab University to allow a candidate to participate provisionally in an interview for the post of assistant professor in history.
The direction came as a response to the writ petition filed by the candidate who argued that despite meeting the eligibility criteria and clearing UGC-NET twice, he did not get interview call.
Justice Sanjay Vashishth directed that the petitioner’s name be regarded as included in the already published list by Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, affiliated to PU, for the interview process.
Despite qualifying UGC-NET, holding an MPhil degree and pending PhD degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, the petitioner claimed to not have received an interview call letter. The interviews began on January 11.
The counsel for the respondent told the court that a committee was formed to examine the eligibility of the petitioner and it concluded that he was not eligible. The court directed the respondent to permit the petitioner to participate in the interview process, clarifying that it would be considered a provisional interview, which would be subject to the final decision on the ongoing plea. If the petitioner is found suitable for the post, the result should be produced in a sealed cover before the bench on the next date of hearing — February 9.
