Isolation wards, ventilators in place to battle Covid-19 in Chandigarh

The UT Health Department has set up isolation wards and ventilators at all three major hospitals in the city — the PGI, the GMCH, Sector 32 and the GMSH, Sector 16 — besides making available adequate stock of logistics with all designated government hospitals to battle Covid-19.

A spokesman for the Health Department said the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) cell was fully engaged in “surveillance and contact tracing in community” as well as surveillance of foreign guests from affected countries at city hotels. He said the managements of hotels had been directed to fill special formats while booking rooms for guests.

He said information education communication (IEC) activities were in full swing among the public as well as in schools and colleges as 4,425 students of 18 schools and four colleges had been made aware about Covid-19. Besides, 94,166 houses had been covered and pamphlets had been distributed on the dos and don’ts with regard to Covid-19. He said no new suspected case had been reported today.

He said audio/visual clips had been made and put on the social media for mass awareness in the city. The public address system had been introduced at roundabouts to create awareness among people about the dos and don’ts for Covid-19.

He said cinema houses in the city had been requested to display visuals creating awareness about the virus. Besides, audio clips on the virus were being aired on FM.

A special training at the national level on Covid-19 was held on March 6, which was attended by two members each from the PGI and the GMCH and one from the Health Department.
