ITBP defeat Chandigarh in hockey

In the last league match of the 1st All-India Senior Men’s Hockey Tournament, ITBP-Jalandhar defeated Chandigarh 2–1. The tournament is being played at Olympian Balbir Singh Hockey Stadium.

Chandigarh captain Gurjinder Singh converted a penalty corner in the 4th minute, but the ITBP lads bounced back in the third quarter through their skipper Roshan (40th). Vijay Gond netted the winning goal for the side in the 45th minute.

In the day’s second encounter, Food Corporation of India (FCI) delivered an impressive performance, beating Rail Coach Factory (RCF) Kapurthala 4–1. RCF put the side on lead in the 4th minute, from captain Pradeep, but FCI equalised in the 11th minute when captain Bobby converted a penalty corner, levelling the score at 1-1.

The turning point came in the third quarter when Parmveer Singh changed the course of the match. He scored back-to-back penalty-corner goals in the 39th and 44th minutes to put FCI ahead 3-1. In the final quarter, Munish Rana added another field goal in the 55th minute, sealing a commanding 4-1 win for the FCI.
