With an aim to introduce latest skill development training among rural students of Mohali, authorities have decided to turn Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Manakpur Sharif into a state-of-the-art centre of excellence.

Rajya Sabha Member Vikramjit Singh Sahney has sanctioned funds worth Rs 1.28 crore for installing skill training equipment at the ITI, Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain said during her visit to the institute on Tuesday. She said that the institute would soon be emerged as a Model ITI.

Jain said an Institutional Management Committee (IMC) has been asked to design and run the courses as per the industry’s need.

The IMC members, who were present during the visit, were urged to run and promote the institute to further benefit the youth by imparting modern skills.

At present, the institute has 85 students.
