Jagatpura clash: 3 held for attempt to murder
The police have arrested three persons on the charges of attempt to murder, rioting, criminal intimidation and snatching in connection with the clash that took place in Guru Nanak Colony, Jagatpura, on Sunday afternoon.
The suspects have been identified as Mohali resident Himmat Singh, Patran resident Jodh Singh and Jagatpura resident Akshay. A case under Sections 109, 115 (2), 126 (2), 351 (2), 304 and 3/5 of the BNS was registered at the Phase-11 police station today.
The DSP (City-2), Harsimran Singh Bal, said, “The suspects were intimidating residents there and used to indulge in street crime. On the instructions of senior officials, we are acting strictly against street crime and drug peddlers.”
Two persons were injured after swords were brandished and stones hurled at residents of Guru Nanak Colony, Jagatpura, after they objected to a group of youths allegedly selling drugs in the area on Sunday afternoon. A video of the incident purportedly showed children, women and the elderly caught in the clash. A youth brandished a sword amid stone pelting from both sides.
Residents alleged that the miscreants attacked the protesting residents with swords and farm equipment, injuring Ramesh.
