Jasleen Kaur defeated Ishita Khokhar 21-6 21-14 during a girls’ U-17 category match on the opening day of the Chandigarh State U-13,U-15 and U-17 Badminton Championship at the Sector 38 sports complex. Aakriti overpowered Aadya 21-5 21-10 and Prakriti Kanwar ousted Aasma Chug 21-6 21-5 in other matches. Tashvi Goel also recorded an easy 21-5 21-7 win over Aayushi.
In the boys’ U-17 category, Vihaan defeated Aarush Ohri 21-0 21-11, Tejas Dewali ousted Harshpreet Singh 21-12 21-17 and Garv Kotti outplayed Preetinder Singh Walia 21-18 26-24. Yajas Kalra also advanced by overpowering a tough challenge by Yug Parmar 21-14 18-21 21-16 and Rishabh defeated Satvik Thaman 22-20 21-8.
Nipun Kakkar recorded a 21-9 21-12 win over Pushpendar Kumar and Sushain Bindal defeated Amritaansh Srivastava 21-14 21-11. Chitranshu Dhawan beat Aarav 21-10 21-7, Agrim Sharma ousted Ravish Poonia 21-14 21-12, Aditiya Rasali outplayed Amod Singh 21-6 21-9, Vansh Sood defeated Sonish Goyal 21-7 21-7, Jai Vardhan Chopra got the better of Abir Garg 21-8 21-4 and Vatsal Chauhan defeated Arjun 21-6 21-4 in some other one-sided matches.
Meanwhile, the Chandigarh Badminton Association felicitated master shuttlers who brought laurels to the country by winning medals at the recently concluded Ceylon International Masters Badminton Tournament in Sri Lanka. Teg Singh, AG Punjab & Chandigarh, honoured the players, namely Satinder Malik, Rajneesh Bhatia, Col Rajeev Mehta and Pankaj Naithani.
