Hundreds of Elementary Teacher Training (ETT) candidates today staged a protest against the State Government and Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains outside the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) headquarters in Mohali for not issuing them joining letters for the past one-and-a-half years.
The protesters claimed that the provisional selection lists of 2,364 ETT candidates were released by the Education Department on July 25 and the lists pertaining to 5,994 candidates were released on September 1, but the process has not moved forward since then.
They said due to the byelections to four Assembly constituencies of the state, the Education Department had stopped the recruitment process.
The union leaders met the senior officials of the Department with a copy of the order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and questioned stopping of the recruitment process.
The jobless teachers are staging protest on daily basis for six days.
On one occasion, they had stormed into the office of the DPI (Elementary) and blocked the passage of staff till 8.30 pm.
