Judoka Ishroop strikes gold at National Games
Local judoka Ishroop Narang won the gold medal in the -78kg category at the ongoing 38th National Games-2025 in Uttarakhand.
She won her first bout against Eve Dosani of Gujarat and won quarterfinal against Haryana’s Muskan. She moved ahead in the championship and registered an outright win over Haryana’s Mithilesh in the semifinal. She won her final bout against Kerala’s Aswathy by ippon on golden score.
Wrestlers Nitesh Deepika win medals
City wrestlers bagged medals at the ongoing National Games. While Deepika claimed a silver, Nitesh won a bronze in the Greco Roman event of the men’s category
The 19-year-old is a student of MCM DAV College, Sector 36, and has won many medals for Chandigarh and Punjab. While playing from Chandigarh, she won bronze medal in the Junior Asian Judo Championship-2024 at Republic of Korea, and gold medal in the Senior National Judo Championship-2024 at Delhi. Ishroop trains under UT Sports Department coach Vivek Thakur at the Sector 34 sports complex.
With 15 medals, including four gold, the city is currently placed 21st on the medal’s tally among the 33 participating states.
Punjab’s Jasmine Kaur won the shot put gold medal with a throw of 15.97m. Vidhi (15.46m) and Srishti Vig (15.46m) claimed the second and third positions, respectively.
In the men’s 400m hurdle race, Punjab’s Hardeep Kumar claimed the second position in 51.02s. Ruchit Mori won the gold in 50.97s, and Rohan Kamble finished third in 51.77s. In the 4X400m mixed relay event, the Punjab team claimed the third position in 3:26.35s.
