A Chandigarh court has issued notices to actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut and other respondents for December 5, regarding a criminal complaint filed over the movie “Emergency”. The complaint, filed by Ravinder Singh Bassi, president of Lawyers for Humanity, alleges that the film maligns the image of Sikhs and misrepresents historical facts.

Bassi claims that Ranaut, with malicious intent, falsely presented Sikh history, creating division between communities and hurting Sikh sentiments. He asserts that Ranaut portrayed Sikhs negatively without studying historical facts and made false allegations against the supreme temporal seat of the Sikh community.

The complaint seeks registration of an FIR under Sections 196(1), 197(1), 302, and 299 of the BNSS. The court has jurisdiction, as the complainant, a devoted Sikh, and the Sikh community’s feelings have been hurt.
