Skipper Kashvee Gautam came up with a scintillating performance as she claimed a seven-wicket haul to help Chandigarh register a seven-wicket win over Jammu & Kashmir in a low-scoring match in the Women’s U-19 One Day Trophy at S Raja Reddy ACA Cricket Stadium in Kadapa on Sunday.

Jammu & Kashmir skipper Sonika won the toss and opted to bat. However, the decision backfired as Chandigarh skipper Kashvee bowled a breathtaking spell of 8.3 overs to claim 7/21.

The side was bowled out for 71 runs in 20.3 overs. Jammu & Kashmir opened their innings with Lalita and Bawandeep Kaur. Kashvee was right on the job as she claimed Bawandeep (3) in her very first over. Next-in Jyoti Devi was trapped lbw by Kashvee to further reduce the side to 8/2.

Sonika then joined Lalita and the duo raised an 18-run partnership. But Lalita (9) was run out by Mehul to push Jammu & Kashmir further back. Kashvee once again took charge and accounted for Riya Singh, Sadiya Wani, Rehana Bano and Mehal Jain — all for a duck each — to leave the side struggling at 31/7.

Madhu Devi (9) raised a 26-run partnership with her skipper before Parushi Prabhakar claimed her wicket.

Ronaq Jahan added three runs to the total before Shivali took her wicket, while Kashvee claimed Sangeeta for a naught to bowl out Jammu & Kashmir for 71 runs. Skipper Sonika scored an unbeaten 27 off 63 balls, with two boundaries, to remain the main scorer for the side.

Chasing a low total, Chandigarh posted 72/3 in 21.3 overs. Kavita Raj and Parushi raised a 41-run partnership for the opening wicket.

Parushi was the first to go for 13 after she was caught by Bawandeep off Ronaq. Kavita (13) also followed suit as Sangeeta bowled her, while Ronaq claimed her second wicket after trapping Mehul (4) lbw on the team’s total of 56 runs. Kashvee (11) and Shivali (3) thereafter remained unbeaten to ensure an easy win for Chandigarh. Jammu & Kashmir bowlers conceded 28 extras to make things easy for Chandigarh. Ronaq (2/13) was the top wicket taker, while Sangeeta took 1/24
