NSS volunteers planted saplings in the herbal garden and other spots on the Sector 7-B school campus. The volunteers pledged to do their bit towards making the planet greener and healthier.
CL DAV Public School, Panchkula
A 20-member team of the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force, led by Major Srishti Sharma of the Corps of Signals and Squadron Leader Maneka, set off on a cycling expedition from Delhi to Drass Valley in Kargil district of Ladakh to commemorate India’s 75 years of Independence. During the expedition, the cyclists pedalled their way through CL DAV Public School, Sector 11, and paid tributes to martyr Major Sandeep Sagar, a DAV alumni and brother of Principal Anjali Marriya. Major Sagar made the supreme sacrifice during the Kargil War. The team members exhorted the young children to join the defence services. They distributed pamphlets and explained various avenues on how to go by to students wishing to join the services.
Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sector 29
The KV, Ordnance Cable Factory (OCF), celebrated Van Mahotsava. The programme started with a motivating speech by Kumari Diksha of Class VIII. Students of Classes VI to VIII participated in a painting competition conducted by art teacher Chander Lekha. They made beautiful paintings related to tree plantation. Principal Seema Singh planted saplings along with the members of the Eco Club and students. She exhorted students to plant, preserve and protect trees.
AKSIPS-41, Chandigarh
Students of Class IV participated in creative and functional craft projects that aimed at transforming discarded plastic beverage bottles into an amazing new form in which plants can be grown. Children found various innovative ways to convert a plastic bottle into a planter.
Guru Nanak Public School, Sec 36
A seminar on virtual reality versus spirituality was conducted at the Sector 36 school wherein an interactive session was held by Harpreet Singh from Australia. He inspired students to view his documentary titled ‘Jaggadi Neend’. He was accompanied by Harjinder Kaur, Chairperson, Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights, and Monika, member of the commission.
VanMahotsava Week celebrated
The Vanmahotsava Week concluded at Shishu Niketan Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 22, on Saturday. The celebrations aimed at making students aware of their duties towards the environment. The school’s eco club, ‘Sanjeevani’, organised number of activities for the students. A slogan-writing competition for Classes IV to VI, creative writing for Classes VII and VIII and planting of medicinal saplings for Classes IX and X were held. Principal Amita Khorana said, “Celebrating Vanmahotsava is a good way to foster feelings of respect for environment in students.”
