The Khamano Grain Market faces wheat glut due to slow lifting of produce.
As per information, 6,781 metric tonnes of wheat has arrived in the grain market, of which 97 per cent has been procured by different purchasing agencies. However, only 32 per cent produce has been lifted to date.
The Food Corporation of India (FCI) has lifted zero per cent produce, said Des Raj, secretary, Market Committee. The PUNSUP has lifted about 32 per cent, PUNGRAIN 27 per cent and MARKFED around 48 per cent.
Commission agents, including Gurdev Singh and Surmukh Singh among others said if procured wheat does not gets lifted at the earliest, it would get difficult to unload the produce at the grain market.
They also demanded more passes in the wake of the inclement weather.
Khamano Market Committee chairman Surinder Singh Ramgarh said he has discussed the matter with Bassi Pathana MLA Gurpreet Singh GP, the SDM and Fatehgarh Sahib Deputy Commissioner. He said, he was hopeful that situation would improve within a couple of days.
