A day after one person was killed and two others sustained injuries when a three-storeyed building collapsed at Sector 115 on the Kharar-Landran road here, the police have booked the builder and the contractor, who was assigned the job of digging earth for construction of a basement, for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Two separate FIRs have been registered against the owner of Ambika Group, Parveen Kumar Soni, and the contractor, Pankaj Kumar, under Sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 337 (causing hurt by an act endangering the life or personal safety of others), 287 (negligent conduct with respect to machinery), 288 (negligent conduct with respect to pulling down or repairing buildings), 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and other sections of the IPC at the Kharar police station.

Kharar DSP Pal Singh said both of them were on the run. He said none of them had approached the police to record statement. He said they had launched a manhunt to nab the duo.

The official said Harjit Singh, who was injured in the incident, was not in a condition to record his statement.

The DSP said both the builder and the contractor had switched off their mobile phones.

However, the police had put their phones on surveillance.

Kharar DSP Pal Singh said both of them had switched off their mobile phones near the mishap site and were on the run since then.
