The police have arrested a resident of Shivalik City, Sector 127, Kharar, Kamaljit Singh (45), for the murder of his wife. He strangled her to death with his T-shirt, packed the body in a suitcase, and dumped it in a canal at Dugri Kotli near Rupnagar.

Kamaljit’s friend and accomplice Sukhdeep Singh, alias Dimpy, has also been arrested in the case.

The decomposed body of Raj Kaur (40) was recovered and sent to the mortuary of the Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala.

The complainant, Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Ludhiana, stated that his elder sister Raj Kaur was married to Kamaljit Singh in 2023. They lived in Shivalik City, Kharar. Her husband, a former bank employee and at present jobless, used to consume liquor and beat her up whenever she objected. On August 20 around 7 am, Kuldeep and his mother visited their house in Kharar to know the well-being of Raj Kaur. When they asked for her whereabouts, Kamaljit told them that he had strangled her to death on August 13, claimed the complainant.

The police said it was the second marriage of both the suspect and the victim. They have no children.

A case under Sections 103, 238, and 3 (5) of the BNS has been registered.
